CONFERENCE SITE NURTURES HP’S INVENTIVE SPIRIT
Problem /
As an innovation pioneer, HP continually strives to foster knowledge sharing
within its technical ranks. In 2003, the company’s Chief Technology
Officer furthered this agenda by establishing TechCon – the first
conference devoted to showcasing technology advancements from across the
organization. With a limited timeframe to prepare, we were asked us to
create an Intranet site that could promote the event and organize program
content.
Solution /
Within only a month, we developed a full-featured Intranet site to publicize
the conference, manage the schedule, and process engineering papers submitted
for review. Specifically, we “wrapped” the site in a look-and-feel
that conveyed a distinctive character, yet adhered to HP’s core branding
guidelines. In addition, we customized special content management software
to accommodate submission and review of conference papers.
Results /
Despite intense time pressure and a fluid “inaugural” planning
environment, the Intranet site contributed to the conference’s tremendous
success. 1700 papers were submitted for review – more than three times
the volume HP had anticipated. In response, the company has committed to
TechCon as an annual event.
